ディケンズの蔵書は死後、Henry Sotheran 社の（古書）販売カタログ（1878）に拠って、そしてサッカレーの主要蔵書は死後、Christie社の（古書）競売カタログ（1864）に拠ってそれぞれ売却されました。Stonehouse はこれら２つの、実質的に蔵書目録といえるカタログに、両文豪の遺品などにかかわるカタログ各１冊を加え、計４冊を１巻（182頁）として１９３５年に標記の版を２７５冊リプリントしました。本書はこの１９３５年版に新たに "FOREWORD by Takashi Terauchi" を組み入れて復刻したものです。本の体裁はＡ５判、ソフトカバー。原本の表紙活字はタイプで打ち直し、表紙以外の部分はスキャナーで再現しています。打ち直しの理由は、表紙の活字が色紙上に印刷されていることと、この色紙に多少の擦り切れが見られることでスキャナーになじまなかったことによります。
付記　本書は『英語青年』（２００４年３月号）に広告が掲載されました。また、
